Dr. Godwin Akpan elected into College of Education Governing Council

Dr. Godwin Akpan of the Department of English Language, Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been elected via a keenly contested election into the governing council of the institution.

Dr. Akpan who will join the newly constituted 10th governing council members of the college led by the Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Bassey Dan Abia Jnr. pulled a total of 123 votes to defeat his opponent, Dr Edem Etuk of Curriculum and Teaching Education Department with 68 votes.
The electoral exercise, which commenced with voters’ accreditation by 8.00am, voting 10.00am and ended by 1.54pm followed by the collation and announcement of the results of the various elections by 4.45pm, took place at the Mini Theater Hall of the College on Wednesday.
Announcing the results, Acting Provost of the College, Dr. Daniel George Udo, who was the Returning Officer in the election, declared Dr. Akpan winner having pulled the majority and popular votes.
“Gentlemen, I want to commend your peaceful conduct and maturity.
I want to seize this opportunity to thank everyone of us for the patience, sacrifice of love, the seed that you have sown is for the benefit of this college,” the Acting Provost declared after the election.
While Congratulating the winners, he advised Dr. Akpan to see his victory as a call to serve and briefed him on the enormous task that lies ahead.
In his response, Dr. Akpan described his victory as victory for all the congregation.
“Like I keep saying, there must have been a vehicle that takes you to a place, whether you are a teaching staff or non teaching staff, there is a need for a representation. Now that the teaching staff and non teaching staff have unanimously agreed that I should represent them at the council, I belong to all of them. My target is first of all that there’s an institution for which we will fight for the welfare of the people,” he noted.
Commending the conduct of the election as excellent, he called on everyone who contested alongside him, to join hands to serve the academic institution.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Provost (Academic), Dr. Kingsley Ibritam poured encomium on the provost for conducting a free, fair and credible election.

Appointment and Disciplinary Committee (AP/DC) junior, Mr Emmanuel Paul.
While Dr. Ubong James Akpan and Dr. Esther Abiata for Appointment and Disciplinary Committee( AP/DC) senior respectively.
For Financial and General Purpose Committee (F&GPC), Mr. Wilson Udo Udofia and Okponson Felix.
