DIRECTOR – MEDICAL SERVICES
Dr. Chris Akpan was born on September 1, 1962 in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Ikono LGA.
He graduated from the College of Medical Sciences of the University of Calabar in May 1986.
During his National Service, he was the Medical Officer in charge of the Edo State College of Education Medical Centre in Ekiadolor, Benin.
He was admitted into the Residency Programme of the National Postgraduate Medical College Lagos in May 1989, while working in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. He was Registrar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and headed many units in that department.
Dr Chris transferred his services to the College of Education Afaha Nsit in 1991 and became the Pioneer Medical Officer of the College. He became Chief Medical Officer in year 2000 and Director, Medical Services in October 2010.
Dr. Chris is a certified Emergency Medicine Practitioner having bagged the Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS) from the American Heart Association and the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certificate (ACLS) from the National Postgraduate Medical College, Lagos.
He has a certificate in HIV MEDICINE from the Netherlands-Asia-Thailand Council and he is also an International Grantee of Global Health Delivery.
Dr Chris started the Joint Council of Unions of Tertiary Institutions in Akwa Ibom State and served as the first Chairman from 1991 to 1999. He was also the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of COE Afaha Nsit from 1991 to 1999. He has served twice in the AP & DC (Senior) and in two Governing Councils of the College as representative of the Congregation.
He is married with Children.
